While many families are able to afford extracurriculars and off-site educational experiences for their children, not all are able to do so. In lower income communities, such activities and experiences are often considered luxuries. Activities such as learning a craft, an instrument, or a trade are often unavailable to children in low income households, and at such a formative time in their lives, access to such opportunities are invaluable.
We at The Feed the Hungry Project and Louella Thompson’s Dream Center have determined that our location is an opportunistic space to provide the aforementioned opportunities in a safe and welcoming atmosphere. The Louella Thompson Children’s Enrichment Center is where the youth of Middletown can create, explore and collaborate. The LTCEC is a safe place for the community’s youth to learn and engage.
● The Digital Learning Corner provides computer based activities that offer both traditional learning experiences and basic internet safety protocol.
● The Art Station offers hands-on activities, like sculpting & painting. Children can bring their own crafting supplies or use ones we provide.
● The Learning Area is a space that provides basic opportunities for children to practice fundamental skills like reading, writing, etc.
● The Play Area serves as a place that our younger participants can enjoy in between activities.
● The Entertainment Corner provides fun and educational media for those wanting some time to wind down.
